Let’s Turn Fear into Revolutionary Anger and United Action
LOS ANGELES (USA), December 2 – “If soldiers are placed in the position to deport their own class brothers and sisters including family, it’s a clear realization for soldiers that this system does not work. When you’re faced with that contradiction you know something is wrong. They will have to reject those orders. This system you fight for isn’t yours,” said a veteran comrade.
As Trump prepares to launch massive deportations on his first day back in office, fear is mounting across the United States, particularly among the working class. Trump’s vow to deport millions of undocumented workers—many of whom contribute to essential industries—has sparked widespread anxiety and anger, especially in immigrant communities.
Los Angeles officials position themselves as a “sanctuary city” but make no move to mobilize masses. Local leaders pledge to resist deportations. Liberal media note that infrastructure for mass deportation is not in place. Trump threatens to deploy military forces to carry out his openly fascist agenda.
With the federal government asserting its power, the potential for mass deportations looms large. With it comes intensified conflict between state and federal authorities. And, more importantly, between the masses and the rulers.
“Immigrants and their US-born children number 98 million people,” an educator told their class the day after Trump’s election. “They are integrated into the US population.” This represents huge potential for building a mass fight for a communist world without borders.
Trump is using “patriotism” to build a fascist movement to scapegoat immigrant workers for the decline of US imperialism (and, with it, workers’ declining living standards). Racism is a structural division that capitalism creates in the working class. Immigrant workers are terrorized and forced into low-paying jobs.
The fear of deportation is very real for undocumented families. “We are scared,” said an undocumented student from El Salvador who has lived in the US for over three years. “They say we are taking jobs from Americans, but the truth is, my parents work in jobs that no one else wants. If they take us away, it will destroy everything.”
Trump may claim he’s targeting criminals, but he wants to come for everyone, and we are all one working class.
Immigrant Workers: Anti-fascist Fighters
Immigrants are not helpless victims. They have been essential to fights against fascist attacks and will be again. Workers who have been here for decades, especially, will not take these attacks lying down. Neither will workers who live in the same communities.
Trump’s deportation plans are a direct attack on the whole working class, which transcends national borders. This is part of a broader, fascist agenda to divide the working class and solidify a system of control based on national origin and race.
The masses must see through his fear tactics meant to break solidarity among workers. Whether documented or undocumented, native-born or immigrant, we are all part of the same struggle.
ICWP Pushes for Communist Solidarity among the Entire Working Class
The ideology of international solidarity has gained traction, especially as militarized immigration law enforcement becomes a real possibility. The deployment of the US military domestically, especially in immigrant-heavy communities, raises alarm about a potential crackdown. The children of immigrants (and their comrades in arms) could be called on to deport their own parents. “I became a citizen after serving in Iraq,” said a veteran comrade. “They exploit us whether or not we are citizens.”
The divide between the capitalist ruling elite and the working class deepens. The burning questions become: Will rank-and-file members of the US military choose to follow racist orders that tear families apart? Or will they stand in solidarity with their class? And can they be convinced to help lead communist revolution? That’s our task.
The future of millions of undocumented workers is uncertain. Whatever happens, ICWP invites students, workers, and soldiers of all “races” (born in the US or elsewhere, documented or not) to unite against our true enemies, the capitalists and imperialists. We invite you to join and build communist collectives of ICWP to fight for a communist world without borders, deportations, or genocide. We can’t win without a united mass party of workers.
We can’t end the deportations, but we can guarantee to fight for a communist world without borders. And for deportees to become ambassadors of ICWP to build the fight for communism in Mexico, Central America and everywhere.
