EL SALVADOR, July 5— “We have even worked on Sunday. We don’t even take a break for lunch. We can only take one day off a month for a doctor’s appointment. They don’t give you permission to take off for emergencies,” said a young worker. “I have spoken with a comrade and her mother, both workers, about this situation and the struggle we are waging as ICWP,” she concluded.
She was sharing a report on the main problems they are facing in the factory. This was in a study group this weekend with workers from the maquilas as well as health and education workers.
The workers explained that their jobs change frequently. New headquarters mean more demands and more repression. Their pay is docked if they miss more than four hours from the shift or if they get medical assistance. Less time to eat. Longer hours to meet production goals. Threats of dismissal if workers demand better working conditions. Lack of supplies for personal protection even when workers have health problems.
“Comrade N has been hospitalized for weeks, due to problems in her lungs. This is because they don’t get enough or adequate masks to do the work she does,” said the comrades who are in communication with her.
The workers understand that complicated scenarios are being presented for the working class all over the world. So the struggle for Communism is necessary.
“I’m part of a union, but I’ve learned that they’re not fighting for the working class. Now I see it more clearly since I have been part of ICWP,” said D, a worker at the factory.
Because of these problems, other workers have come forward seeking support from the ICWP. They want more information about the party’s ideas. So, we planned a meeting with these co-workers.
Studying Communist Philosophy is Important for the Working Class
“Dialectical materialism helps us understand how society and the economy work. Who are the owners of the means of production, factories and capital. Dialectics helps us understand change. I have learned that with the study of philosophy,” said P, a worker.
The crisis inside the factory is a contradiction. The bosses seek to maximize their profits (increased repression, continuous surveillance, new managers, union complicity with the bosses, layoffs and threats of dismissals). And the workers seek to improve working conditions. Through organizing in the ICWP, this contradiction is the main force for change. The class struggle will lead us to new conditions until we achieve Communism.
“The struggle of opposites is temporary. One of the forces will try to impose itself on the other and win,” said Lenin.
Discussing communist dialectics with workers helps us understand change and the need to organize more workers.
“The mistake of the communists of the past was to believe that the workers were not ready to understand dialectics,” said a military veteran.
“Therefore, it is urgent to continue with communist political training so that everyone — workers and other proletarians — are aware of the need to fight for communism, and to organize new members to the struggle,” explained S.
However, they have to know about the personal contradictions and the current system. This leads to studying the situation at home, with friends and with co-workers. Always taking care of security for the regime imposed on us, overcoming and preventing repression and fear from paralyzing us. With knowledge at every step of the communist struggle.
We must continue with the distribution of the Red Flag newspaper, meetings of the different groups. And meetings with different members from other countries to grow in knowledge and experience.
