It is unfortunate what is happening with this senseless persecution of people from our country by La Migra (ICE). At every traffic light on the way to work I see how they get out, beat, and arrest people without looking for anyone specific. Only to instill terror in the streets.
I want to tell you what I have experienced this week. La Migra arrested my daughter without checking her papers until hours after having beaten and mistreated her. They released her after verifying that she is a citizen.
What we are experiencing fills me with pain and anger. That is why I want to speak. To say how important it is to be united in the face of the terror and dehumanization that this murderous system is carrying out.
My daughter, despite the blows, is now at home. But this leads me to think of all the other people from my country who do not have their papers: evicted and torn from their homes, children orphaned, families destroyed.
In recent weeks, the terror of La Migra towards all of us has intensified. In our community we have organized a group to alert people where La Migra is and thus evade their harassment. We are coordinating with an agency to use as a shelter and to provide food for anyone who needs help.
Only together can we destroy the roots of the oppression to which we are being subjected. We must stop it. We cannot continue to live in fear. We raise our voices.
Thanks for sharing this.
