ICWP Opens Door to Seeing a Better Way to Survive
Hello Comrades.
I’m from South Africa. When I started joining ICWP, I fell in love with the party almost immediately because it was way different than the other political parties that I was familiar with in South Africa. Like the African National Congress, the Democratic Alliance, and the Economic Freedom Fighters, to name a few. I realized that all those political parties are just playing mind games with us. The only thing they care about is numbers and money, not about our wellbeing and a better education system.
But with ICWP it has opened another door in ways of thinking that there is actually a better way to survive and live without corruption, crime and abuse of alcohol and drugs. We can actually survive without depending on money.
Yesterday my Mom and I cooked some soup for people in my area. It wasn’t something fancy or big. But the smiles on each person’s face that was there! It was out of this world. Now I want to mention that if all of us can be like that and share the little that we have, among each other, the world will be a better place. I want to grow and make sure I bring a lot of people to join our party and help destroy the capitalist system.
Do you agree? We need to build relationships with other young comrades everywhere.
Viva, Comrades, Viva! I join! I join!
—High school student in Kariega (South Africa)
“It’s great to hear that young comrades in South Africa have set up an international group chat!”
I am a high school teacher In Los Angeles, California. Many of my students also have your sentiment about changing our world. And there is no system other than communism that can really meet the needs of workers and youth in Los Angeles and workers and youth in South Africa.
Students in my high school classroom are already coming in with deep criticism of the society we live in. As a communist teacher, I also point out that it’s not just “society.” It’s the capitalist society that we need to blame.
Recently, I’ve been having strong political discussions with one of my students, Daniel. We’ve talked about racism and how capitalism created the concept of race to oppress, control, and divide workers. I explained to him that the history of the United States is a racist history that used racism to oppress slaves from Africa.
I often get students that immigrated from Latin America. When I mention slavery in a class lesson, they did not even know that slavery existed here in the US. This means that capitalist educational systems will always try to erase the real history of capitalists and imperialists. My student was fascinated when I told him that it was because of the history of racism in the US that ethnic groups live divided here in Los Angeles.
Daniel knows that I am a very political person since I am a communist. So he has been coming to my class wanting to talk about philosophy, religion, and even our purpose in life. Last week, Daniel asked me if I had heard about what is happening in Sudan. I hadn’t heard much about it, so I told him that I would meet with my collective and talk about it. It was a total coincidence that on that same evening, we had a scheduled ICWP collective meeting. I told Daniel that my communist friends would love to meet him to talk about these topics that must be important for all of us.
I hope to bring Daniel closer to ICWP. My plan is to invite him to our next local ICWP event. We are also working on establishing a book club with a recent high school graduate who is open to our ideas and wants to join a book club with us.
The truth is that we are all thinking about each other around the world. It’s in our nature to wonder how people are struggling through war and hunger, here in the US and in other countries. This is international solidarity. And hearing from young comrades in South Africa sounds like international communist solidarity in action. I hope to hear from you and meet you soon.
Raising a Communist Fist!
