Jews and Arabs Celebrate a Communist May Day in Tel Aviv

TEL AVIV, May 11—Hundreds of protestors in Tel Aviv carry photos of Palestinian children murdered in the genocide in Gaza

TEL AVIV (Palestine/Israel), May 12—“Can we turn rebellion into communist revolution?” asked our friends and members who were mobilizing for May Day. Every day, in Tel Aviv, there are several large anti-war demonstrations. Our members are participating in many of these demonstrations.

We go with our pamphlet about Gaza.  One young demonstrator saw our pamphlet with a photo of comrades in South Africa showing a banner saying, ‘abolish wage slavery’. He said, “Smash capitalism! It is sick, decadent, genocidal. It is killing people in Gaza now. We will be next.” He took the pamphlet. This young man is among millions in Israel who want to see change.

We organized about twenty comrades to participate in our May Day march. A significant victory for us was the participation of several Arab Israelis in our contingent which had previously been all Jewish Israelis.

Every day, the Israeli ‘Defense’ Force (IDF) commits more atrocities in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and attempts to build ‘Greater Israel.’  There are increasing signs that Israeli capitalism is imploding.  Israel has accumulated a debt of $450 billion, mainly because of the war. Its economy grew at 6.1% in 2022, but its growth rate now is barely at 1.1%. Thousands of IDF reservists are refusing to join, and many more are suffering from PTSD. Exodus from Israel is depleting its weak economy.

During and after the May Day demonstration, we all spoke about our experience in the IDF. (As non-ultra-Orthodox Jewish Israelis, we were all obligated to serve in the IDF.) Everybody knows somebody in the army. They saw a huge opportunity to turn current dissent in the military into massive support for abolishing wage slavery. Most of us joined the IDF under duress.

One of our members said, “I joined the IDF. I and many others were not interested in any conflict. And the top brass wanted to keep us quiet. They bribed us by giving us a higher rank.”

Another ex-IDF comrade said, “IDF soldiers are counting their 32 months. We can easily send them Red Flag.”

This was our first May Day under the banner of ICWP. It also showed that we can distribute Red Flag inside IDF now. Our organization’s growth is very important in turning rebellion into revolution. This can be a catalyst for worldwide support for abolishing wage slavery.
