US Elections: Defeat Fascism with Communist Revolution

November 11— “I like that headline, ‘US Elections: Evil vs. Evil,” declared a Los Angeles bus driver. “I’m tired of voting for the ‘lesser evil.’”

No wonder the Democrats lost. They long ago quit pretending to be a “workers’ party.”  They are enabling genocide in Gaza. The Obama administration deported three million people. Biden’s 2023 “Asylum Ban” barred most migrants from asylum protection if they crossed through another country on their way to the southern US border.

Vast numbers didn’t vote. But to change things, we need communist revolution.

For our working-class family in Gaza and at the US-Mexico border, nothing will change when Trump becomes president. For workers in the United States, fascist repression and economic crisis will intensify. Class struggle will sharpen. Opportunities to mobilize masses for communism will grow.

“We all have to tighten our belts,” proclaimed Democrat Jimmy Carter in 1979. Obama urged Americans to “sacrifice” in a vain attempt to win the war in Afghanistan.

It’s no secret that the US imperialists – the biggest industrial and finance capitalists– have been facing increasingly stiff competition. For control of energy resources. For markets and cheap labor. For the continuation of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. To stem the declining rate of profit. To compete with Chinese imperialism, which is consolidating alliances with an alphabet of acronyms.

And, as Red Flag has reported, they are fighting a losing battle. Even US military domination is challenged now. Chinese imperialism has the world’s largest standing army. It has the world’s largest navy, followed by Russia and North Korea.

So at this point in history, the US ruling class needs to impose fascism. The Trump presidency gives them the opportunity to pretend that voters gave them a “mandate” for it. But that’s a lie. Sure, proud and dangerous fascists are crawling out of the woodwork. But only about 1/4 of eligible voters chose Trump. Some of them “overlooked” his revolting racism and misogyny. Just like some Harris voters “overlooked” her role in perpetuating genocide.

Fascism means US capitalists must “tighten the belts” of workers in the US – around their necks! They must impose “austerity” much as the IMF has imposed it in Pakistan, Jordan, sub-Saharan Africa, Mexico, and much of South America.

Trump ally Elon Musk said exactly that. He told voters to expect some “temporary hardship” as federal spending is cut drastically. “Everyone’s going to have to take a haircut,” he said.

Except for billionaires like him who expect to profit handsomely from a huge industrial consolidation:  Tesla, AI, Neuralink, space/military technology, and – Musk hopes – Boeing. All at the expense of workers in the US and elsewhere.

As Musk admitted, this creates an explosive condition of class struggle. Hence the Trump crowd’s increasingly vicious and violent attacks on immigrants. First, to terrorize immigrant workers, who are nearly 20% of the US workforce. Second, to misdirect the anger of non-immigrant workers away from their real capitalist enemies.

There will be deportations. There will be resistance. This means huge opportunities to mobilize for communism and recruit many new party members, immigrants and US-born. Especially in the factories and the military, key sectors for revolution with many immigrant workers.

We must fight fear and cynicism. We must be in the front lines, raising communist revolution as the only solution and helping people to see the potential for that in the struggle.

And not just in the US. Racist attacks on immigrant workers in the US will sharpen the class struggle and create revolutionary conditions in Mexico and Central America. Widening imperialist wars will create revolutionary conditions worldwide.

Our comrades in India, El Salvador, and Israel already organize for communism under conditions of fascist repression. Our comrades in Gaza organize for communism amid massive destruction, starvation, and misery. We will fight for and win communism everywhere in the face of the rulers’ attacks.

There is much to learn from the history of fighting fascism. The main takeaway is that we can’t rely on liberal capitalists like Democratic governors who are loudly preparing to “fight Trumpism.”  We can’t rely on future elections to “turn things around.”  We must rely on the workers, organized to destroy capitalism.

Workers who are motivated to build a society without wage slavery, borders, or nations. Where people of all genders and cultures work together as comrades to produce what the masses need and distribute it as it’s needed.

That is: We will defeat fascism by winning a communist
